Inflammation can occur at any site in the body. It occurs as a result of immune system response whereby the body sends white blood cells out to attack what it has identified as being a potential source of harm. This even occurs - and is most damaging - when the potential source of harm is the body's own organs.
Chronic inflammation plays a major part in the development of many diseases, including high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, sinusitis, inflammatory bowel disease, chronic peptic ulcers, and cancers.
